RULES OF THE LEAGUE:
In order to encourage more diverse selections, we have assigned a price
to each of the top 50 ProTour riders, and selected others. You receive
a budget of $750 for purchasing your nine riders Tour favorites cost $165 or
$150, other riders in the table have prices of $135, $125, $110, $100,
$90, $75, $60 or $50. Any rider not mentioned in the table has a
price of $25. You can spend no more than $750 on your team of 9.
At the bottom of this page is the complete table of rider prices.

You must pick 9 riders, although you can pick any rider (including Marco Pantani, Jan Ullrich, Greg Lemond or Bernard Hinault) not listed for $25 Note that not all of the riders listed here may actually participate in the Tour de France, so you should still look for the list of teams and riders at www.cyclingnews.com or www.letour.com a few days before the race begins. In particular, any rider in the list below associated with a team that is not selected for the Tour is not riding.
SCORING
The lowest score wins (as in golf). Each participant's top five (5)
riders from the general classification (abbreviated as G.C. meaning the
overall ranking based on elapsed time in all
stages) count toward the score. The G.C. placement of the
rider in a participant's roster is a score. For example, if a participant
had riders in 1st, 3rd, 8th, 9th and 10th G.C. places as her five
best riders, then her G.C. score would be 1+3+8+9+10=31. BONUS points
(see below) are then subtracted from this score to arrive at the participant's
FINAL SCORE. G.C. placing for riders who abandon in the middle of the race
is based on the number of riders remaining in the race at the
start of the stage in which the rider quit.
BONUS : BONUS points are subtracted for [1] having rider place in the top three in a daily stage, [2] for having a rider in the overall tour leader's yellow jersery, and at the completion of the 3-week long race for [3] winning a colored jersey as follows:
[1a] -5 points for a stage win.
[1b] -2 points for 2nd in a stage.
[1c] -1 points for 3rd in a stage.
[2] -5 points for the first day a roster member wears the yellow
(leader's) jersey, -1 point for each day thereafter.
[3a] -5 points for the yellow (leaders) jersey at tours end.
[3b] -5 points for the green (sprint leader's) jersey at end.
[3c] -5 points for the polka-dot (best climber's) jersey at end
[3d] -5 points for the white (best young rider) jersey at end.

Example: Suppose a roster of nine riders included the riders given
below with their final placings, stage placings and jersies. (Notice that
negative FINAL SCORES are possible):

The scores are updated after each stage, adjusting for changes in G.C. and bonus deductions.
TIES: In the case of ties, the tie will be broken
by comparing the G.C. place of the sixth (6th) best pick of each person
tied. This process is repeated throught the 9th best rider if necessary.
Riders with a line through their name are not participating in this
years Tour for various
reasons. Riders with names asterisked have been identified as
questionable to participate,
so you should be sure to verify they are actually riding. This
does not mean all other riders
are participating, so be sure to check the list of teams
and riders a few days before the
Tour starts. And, you should also check your picks
a couple of days before the tour starts
with the final rider start list.
New for 2012. Only positive drug tests associated with the
actual tour in which the test happened
will alter the standings. For example, Contador's
positive in the 2010 that led to his results being
removed from the 2010 and 2011 tours will only apply to the 2010 tour,
since he passed all tests in
the 2011 tour. Note that in both those tours, his removal
did not change the winner of the TDFRL
