                         GROOMING REPORT
We will update this page whenever we have news about grooming.
Last report:  February 8, 2002.
Most recent grooming:  February 7, 2002
Current status:
The trail was groomed again on Thursday the 31st.  I skied it on Friday, and found pretty good corduroy on Diamond Back, Easy Street, and Knock Your Socks Off Rock.  Snow quality is good, the trail is reasonably firm and stable despite the fresh powder that fell earlier in the week.

The huge snowfall we got last week has been very difficult to work with. The snowmobile gets stuck easily when conditions like this prevail making grooming a minimum 6 hour effort. When all is said and done, the trail came out fairly good to Knock your Socks Off Rock. Grooming the classic track (in the woods) in these conditions is impossible, however, until the snow melts and settles. As this did not occur until Sunday, I will try and get out and establish it, this week.

As far as operations go we have no more money for expenses which have been eaten up by extra time grooming because of our large snowfall amounts. To date, I have spent over 60 hours grooming, and some extra time at the chiropractor to ease my back. It has been satisfying to groom when skiers (out of towners, mostly) find the track and they thank us many times over for our work. Lots of good faith has been expressed for us to open a center next year, with forest service permits. There may be state grants available to get a Piston Bully, which would make sense.

As this has been, for the large part, a volunteer effort, my time is predicated on having other work to sustain my living expenses. This has been a spare winter in that regard and a large job that I had fell through because the homeowners? financing did not work out. I have been offered a good job out of town that I will have to take (bills to pay) if nothing else comes through this week (Feb. 4-11). This will forestall grooming for three weeks unless we get another volunteer that I can train, this week. ANY TAKERS?
